Multiple Coulomb scattering of muons in lithium hydride

چکیده
Multiple Coulomb Scattering (MCS) is a well known phenomenon occurring when charged particles traverse materials. Measurements of muons traversing low $Z$ materials made in the MuScat experiment showed that theoretical models and simulation codes, such as GEANT4 (v7.0), over-estimated scattering. The Muon Ionization Cooling Experiment (MICE) measured cooling muon beam liquid hydrogen or lithium hydride (LiH) energy absorber part programme to develop accelerator facilities, Neutrino Factory Collider. loss MCS occur material are competing effects alter performance channel. Therefore measurements required order validate simulations used predict future facilities. We report MICE apparatus using LiH within momentum range 160 245 MeV/c. RMS scattering width about 9% smaller than predicted by approximate formula proposed Particle Data Group. at 172, 200 240 MeV/c compared (v9.6) default model. These show agreement with this more recent version over incident momenta.

Regeneration of lithium aluminum hydride.
Lithium aluminum hydride (LiAlH(4)) is a promising compound for hydrogen storage, with a high gravimetric and volumetric hydrogen density and a low decomposition temperature. Similar to other metastable hydrides, LiAlH(4) does not form by direct hydrogenation at reasonable hydrogen pressures; therefore, there is considerable interest in developing new routes to regenerate the material from the ...
متن کاملStark deceleration of lithium hydride molecules
We describe the production of cold, slow-moving LiH molecules. The molecules are produced in the ground state using laser ablation and supersonic expansion, and 68% of the population is transferred to the rotationally excited state using narrowband radiation at the rotational frequency of 444 GHz. The molecules are then decelerated from 420 m/s to 53 m/s using a 100 stage Stark decelerator. We ...
متن کاملReduction of Halomethanes with Lithium Aluminum Hydride
A study has been made of t he reactions of lithium aluminum hydride with methyl bromide, methylene chloride, meth ylene bromide, methylene iodide, chloroform, bromoform, and carbon t etrachloride. Except for hydrogen and unreacted h alida, essentia lly pure methane was formed in each case. The amount of hydrogen evolved increased with the n umber of halogen atoms in the molecule, reaching a max...
متن کاملComments on multiple scattering of high-energy muons in thick layers
We describe two independent methods to calculate the angular distribution of muons after traversing a thick scatterer due to multiple Coulomb scattering. Both methods take into account the nuclear size effect. We demonstrate a necessity to account for the nucleus extension as well as incoherent scattering on atomic electrons to describe the muon scattering at large angles in thick matter layers...
